How do I stand out at a craft fair or exhibition?

How do I stand out at a craft fair or exhibition?

Consider the shopper’s perspective

Have a look at your stall as your potential customer’s would, and consider the flow of traffic through the market. Elevate your most eye-catching and attractive wares to make them more noticeable in a crowd. Consider using a statement colour or sign that can be easily noticed. As you sell your items, restock if you can so your booth isn’t empty, which can look just as unappealing as a messy booth that is too full or disorganised. A clean, organised display will look a lot more professional. Use a table cloth so you can store extra goods tidily and discretely under the market table. If you are allowed, use a sandwich board in the market stall to draw people’s attention.

Make the most of your space

You may only have a small market table, so to get the most impact with customers, and to be able to translate that into sales, make sure you use that space efficiently. You will be able to neatly display far more of your wares by using vertical space, like using this laser cut stand template. Elevating some of your items will draw attention, and make them easier for people to see from a distance or from behind your crowd of interested shoppers. A sea of items on a table will be easy for people to overlook. Vertical space is your friend.

Keep things tidy

Clutter is off putting and will make it harder for a customer walking past to spot something eye-catching. If you are selling jewelry at a market, consider showing the jewelry on a display stand so you can have lots of items on display without it seeming too cluttered or busy. Display stands are an elegant way to show off your creations with a neutral look that will make them pop. Less is more, so a clean display will catch attention and let your items speak for themselves.

Use banners, posters or signs

Displaying signs or posters with your company name or logo will help catch customers’ attention and curiosity. Coordinate your fonts and signs to create a cohesive look. If you sell homemade hotsauces, you probably would want a different look than for a market stall jewelry display. Mark the prices clearly so people don’t need to catch your attention to ask, which will also allow you to instead engage with customers about how you make your product or source your materials, or share the story of your market table products. Display your social media handles so people can follow you there.

Have different payment options available if possible

While some people may have cash, everyone carries cards, so if you can accommodate cashless payments, do so! There are lots of options available, so do your research to find one that will suit you best. Have your social media and business cards next to your payment terminal as a final reminder to your customers so they can follow you and continue to support you.
